Biography

Picture
I am an Indonesian pianist that was born on 24th January 2002 in Indonesia. I am currently studying at Codarts University of Arts, Rotterdam, taking Bachelor of Music in Jazz.  I had finished my Pre-College Music Program at Daya Indonesia Performing Arts Academy (DIPAA) by Prof Tjut Nyak Deviana Daudsjah. I take piano for my major instrument and saxophone for minor one. Now I am focused on Jazz, but also learn every genre of music like classical, ethnic/traditional/world music, popular music.

My musical intelligence was known when I was 3 years old. I achieved MURI Indonesia Record, as “The youngest person that can sing most songs”. I started playing piano at 3,5 years old. When age 4, I had my first piano recital and get The Best Performer at Elfa Music School. I made the first music composing, and played guitar, violin, drum, gamelan, and harmonica at age 5. According to my teacher, I also have an “absolute pitch”.

I have been playing piano for more than 13 years, and formally graduated from YPM Classical Music School, the oldest pre-conservatory in Indonesia. At YPM I have learned Classical Piano & Music Theory for 6 years, get some awards, and have been chosen to participate in Best Student Concert in the last exam. I have ever taken an international short music education program as the youngest participant at Bali International Jazz Summer School 2015, Music Composing Short Course Ananda Sukarlan 2014, and Masterclass Jazz Composition with Indra Lesmana in 2020.

Some awards I got were Wyeth My Golden Kids for Musical Intelligent Talent (2007), Winner of Platinum Kids Olympic (2008) for compositions, Winner of the Gracia - National Open Competition 2008 in both jazz & classical piano, as well as the Arranging & Composing category in 2014, the winner of 42nd Jazz Goes To Campus Band Competition (2019), etc.

The last prestigious competition that I won was the 2019 VSA International Young Soloist Competition. I successfully performed at the Kennedy Center, Washington, D.C. bring my classical-jazz original composition. I hope to inspire people to create their own original work and don't be afraid to show it. My performance was attended by the First Lady of US Melania Trump and Deborah F. Ruter, President of The John F. Kennedy for the Performing Arts.

I have participated in several jazz festivals such as Java Jazz the biggest International jazz festival in Indonesia and Jazz Goes To Campus, the oldest one. I also participated in the Di Atas Rata-Rata 2 concert by Erwin Gutawa and the youngest participant in the concert of 100 Keyboardists with national senior keyboardists.
In the last 3 years I was a session player of notable Indonesian Singer like Danilla Riyadi, and support recording for Digital Music format, TV show guest speaker such as Hitam Putih Trans TV and Little VIP Metro TV, active as a private teacher,  special & regular events  band player.

I also have been learning music autodidact from communities and jamming/sharing with senior musicians. The important method to improve my musical skill is “Learning by Doing”, so I still active in open jam-sessions and participating in the jazz/music community gathering like Komunitas Jazz Kemayoran, KlabJazz, Jazzuality, iCanStudioLive and so on.

Kasyfi is one of my favourite young musicians, his talent is extraordinary. At the age of a teenager he is not only very technically fluent in playing various types of music on the piano, but he also has a good vision and ability in communicating his ideas in music. This can be heard through his works, both compositional and arrangement works. This is a quality that is rarely owned by young musicians. In addition to his extraordinary talent in music, Kasyfi also has exceptional discipline and commitment to his work. I experienced this when teaching Kasyfi for two semesters at DAYA, I saw how serious and proactive he was in class.

Kasyfi is a very talented pianist. He has taken a jazz piano lesson from me and I can feel his eagerness to learn. I believe the "international music education" program would be a great opportunity for him to showcase his talent in the international level. He will meet other talented people from all over the world and they can learn from and inspire each other. Based on my experience, participating in programs such as this is a positive experience and gives you the motivation to keep on developing your craft. I look forward to following Kasyfi’s journey.

I have known Kasyfi since he began attending the program at DAYA and had the opportunity to guide him in the Major Piano class for two semesters. His ability in music can be seen from his piano playing that is complete with high mastery of language and techniques at a relatively very young age. In addition to his extraordinary playing as a multi-instrumentalist (Piano and Saxophone), his understanding of music is also very deep. This can be seen in the compositions and arrangements that have been made, where Kasyfi is personally able to develop ideas and convey messages so that we can be carried along to see music through his own perspective. His character in music is so strong that he makes him stand out among musicians his age. Kasyfi does have a huge musical talent but not only that, he is also equipped with dedication and discipline where his efforts support the talents he has. I am very sure Kasyfi will bring Indonesia go international and make us all proud.
